Hydra Mendoza for the San Francisco Board of Education
"For the past years, Hope Road has supported my
work in the community and encouraged my run for public office.
Stephanie and Johanna are truly a new generation of civically
minded political consultants."
- Hydra Mendoza, San Francisco Board of Education
Hydra Mendoza is a public school parent, education advocate and education liaison to the Mayor of
San Francisco. She was a first time candidate who ran citywide in a field of 16 candidates. The
challenge for Hydra was to increase her name recognition and broaden her base of support beyond the
education community. Hope Road was able to cut through the clutter of candidates by developing the
campaign message, collateral material, website and direct mail that branded Hydra's unique experiences
and skills.
The result was a campaign that garnered endorsements by the SF Democratic Party, SF Labor Council
and the United Educators of San Francisco. Hydra received the second highest number of votes all due
to the campaign's rigorous messaging and strong field campaign. She also became the first Filipina
American to be elected to the San Francisco Board of Education.
